What they do
A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Overview
Job Summary
Provides respiratory care using critical thinking skills learned and refined through education and experience as a Respiratory Therapist. A Certified Respiratory Therapist demonstrates these skills by successfullypleting examinations administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and earning the credential CRT. Provides a caring relationship that facilitates health and healing. Performs other job duties as assigned.

Specifications
Experience
Minimum Required
Current state license.
Recent clinical respiratory care experience (hospital, home care, skilled nursing facility) and/or previous respiratory care practice.
Preferred/Desired
1 year hospital experience.
Education
Minimum Required
Current state license.
State licensure and/or "CRT" credential in accordance with the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Minimum Required
Successfulpletion of Hospital and Departmental orientation.

Basicputer knowledge using Windows Operating system and Microsoft Office.

BLS CERTIFICATION WITHIN 14 DAYS OF HIRE
