A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description

Respiratory Therapist Respiratory Therapy Department PRN positions available (These positions are required to work both day and night shifts, weekends and holidays)
Job Summary:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Department Specific Responsibilities:
Exercises concern for patient's welfare. Prepares and administers patient medications. Provides oxygen administration. Performs emergency procedures Monitors appropriate record systems. Trouble shoots procedures and equipment.
Education Requirements:
Must be a graduate of an AMA approved school of respiratory therapy.
Certification/Licensure Requirements:
Must be a Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Mississippi. Must be registered as an CRT or an RRT with the NBRC. Must maintain certifications in BLS and ACLS.
Experience/Qualification Skills:
Ability to read and interpret physician's orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Able to write routine reports and correspondence.
Reasoning Ability:
Must have the ability to apply non-judgmental reasoning capabilities whenever necessary when dealing with patients, visitors, and staff. Critical thinking is a must. Must have reasonable reflective thinking focused on deciding what to believe or do.
