A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description

Within the scope of practice, the respiratory therapist will assess patients and develop treatment plans in conjunction with the provider to address specific patient needs. Provide emergency care including assistingwithor performing intubations, attending rapid responses/codes, attending C-sections and responding to traumas. In the critical care setting, you will attend multidisciplinary rounds, initiate and manage mechanical ventilation, perform arterial sampling including arterial puncture and arterial lines, conduct overnight oximetry studies, and assist with bronchoscopies. In the outpatient setting, you will be trained to perform pulmonary function testing and rotate through the lab as needed.
Requirements include:
  • A.S. Degree in Respiratory Care from an AHA accredited program
  • CRT (RRT preferred)
  • Current New Hampshire license
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NRP within 1 year of hire
  • PALS preferred
