A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in Jersey. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Respiratory Assistant Section I:

Job-Specific Requirements of Position Job Specific Requirements Cleans, stocks, covers, and initials all assigned or designated respiratory equipment.

Completes all assignments within the agreed-upon timeframe.

Maintains adequate stock of all supplies used to clean respiratory equipment.

Maintains cleanliness and order of the Medical Gas Room and Clean and Dirty Equipment Rooms.

Monitors line pressure and cylinder inventory of the Nitrous Oxide system and all other Medical Center medical gas bank systems, including oxygen and nitrogen.

Performs inventory of non-Pyxis supplies.

Maintains inventory of all medical gases necessary for the daily operation of the Respiratory Care Department and Medical Center.

Performs maintenance, daily rounds, and stocking of supplies for departmental Blood Gas Machines.

Cleans and maintains Respiratory Care equipment.

Maintains inventory of all medical gas cylinders.

Delivers full medical gas cylinders and retrieves empty cylinders from all areas of the Medical Center.

Transports medications to and from the Pharmacy.

Responds to and assists the Respiratory Care Practitioner during Medical Center emergencies when needed.

Performs other duties as requested.
