A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Job Overview:
The primary function of a Respiratory Therapist is to provide respiratory care to a variety of inpatients and outpatients. The scope of duty includes therapeutic, diagnostic, educational and invasive procedures for adults.
Qualifications:
Required:
Registered Respiratory Therapist Current NJ Respiratory license RRT/CRT (Required). Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required. CRT Scheduling Requirements (non-exempt positions): Full-time Evenings 37.5
Essential Functions:
Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and, supports life by administering inhalants, and operating mechanical ventilators. Therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators. Administers respiratory therapy treatments by performing bronchopulmonary drainage. Assisting with breathing exercises; monitoring physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes; and directing treatments given by aides, technicians, and assistants.
