Responsibilities Provide safe, evidence-based respiratory care to patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions in inpatient and/or emergency settings Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and collaborate with providers to develop and implement care plans Administer oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, bronchial hygiene therapies, and other respiratory treatments Set up, monitor, adjust, and troubleshoot non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilators and related respiratory equipment Perform arterial blood gas sampling, analysis, and basic interpretation to guide respiratory management Respond to rapid response and code blue situations, providing airway management and ventilatory support as part of the resuscitation team Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely in the electronic health record Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, inhaler techniques, equipment use, and self-management strategies Adhere to infection prevention, safety policies, and regulatory standards to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, care conferences, and performance improvement or evidence-based practice initiatives Assist with orientation, mentoring, or precepting of students and new staff as assigned Support 24/7 operations through rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed Required Skills Respiratory assessment and care planning Mechanical ventilation management (invasive and non-invasive) Oxygen therapy administration Aerosol and nebulizer therapy Bronchial hygiene and airway clearance techniques Arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation Airway management, including suctioning and basic ventilator weaning protocols Use of respiratory equipment such as ventilators, Bi PAP/CPAP, oxygen delivery devices, and nebulizers Electronic health record (EHR) documentation Infection prevention and control practices Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and rapid response participation Patient and family education on respiratory disease management and equipment use Critical thinking and clinical decision making in acute settings Time management and prioritization in a fast-paced environment Interdisciplinary communication and teamwork
