A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Salary Range:

$71K to $105K per annum

License/Certification/Experience:

Associate of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy from a two-year AMA-approved program required. Must have successfully passed a national Respiratory Therapy credentialing exam. Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred; Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) considered with commitment to obtain RRT within 12 months. Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in the State of New Mexico required. Current BLS (CPR) certification required; ACLS preferred. High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
