A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

$49.76/hr - $62.88/hr (based on experience and qualifications)
Requirements:
Associate Degree from an AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy Program required Active New York State Respiratory Therapist License required Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through NBRC required BLS Certification through AHA required ACLS Certification through AHA required Experience with mechanical ventilation (invasive and non-invasive) Strong patient assessment and critical thinking skills Ability to work in a fast-paced acute care environment Excellent communication and decision-making skills
Responsibilities:
Provide respiratory therapy services to both inpatient and outpatient populations. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate respiratory care treatments. Initiate and monitor invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Perform respiratory assessments and breathing therapy procedures. Administer bronchial hygiene therapy, postural drainage, and percussion treatments. Conduct bedside pulmonary function testing. Perform arterial blood gas punctures and analyze blood gas results. Maintain and perform quality control on blood gas analyzers. Respond to Code Blue, Rapid Response, and emergency situations. Perform CPR and participate in emergency airway management. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, patients, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and quality standards. Perform additional respiratory therapy duties as assigned.

New York State Respiratory Therapist License NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) BLS (American Heart Association) ACLS (American Heart Association)
Pay:
$49.00 - $62.50 per hour Expected hours: 37.5 per week
