What they do

A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description

Education/Experience Minimum Required:
Graduation from an accredited School for
Respiratory Therapy Preferred:
One (1) year experience as a
Respiratory Therapist License/Certification Minimum Required:
New York State Respiratory Therapy Permit or License Registered by the NBRC as a Respiratory Therapist CPR and ACLS Certification within 3 months of hire Work Environment Work is performed on all patient care units mostly at bedside. Ability to push equipment. Limited access to O2 outlets. Age of Patients Served All Age Groups HIPAA RolesBased Access to Patient Information All Access to patient information, including restricted information Level 4
