A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Requirements Minimum 1 year of respiratory therapy experience Active New York State Respiratory Therapist license required and must be in hand before submission CRT certification required BLS certification required ACLS certification required NRP certification required RRT certification preferred PALS certification preferred Previous community hospital experience required Epic charting experience required Adult critical care experience required Emergency Department experience required Experience with both invasive and non-invasive ventilation Strong knowledge of respiratory medications and medication delivery systems Proficiency in arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation Strong airway management and suctioning skills Experience with ventilator management, troubleshooting, and weaning Ability to provide respiratory care to patients across multiple age groups Ability to work independently and adapt to changing clinical situations Strong communication, critical-thinking, and patient-care skills Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the assignment location ; local candidates within 75 miles are not accepted Maximum requested time off (RTO) must comply with assignment requirements Responsibilities Provide comprehensive respiratory care to patients in ICU, Emergency Department, medical/surgical, pediatric, and newborn settings Assess patients and develop appropriate respiratory care interventions Manage invasive and non-invasive ventilators according to patient needs Provide and manage BiPAP and CPAP therapy Perform ventilator troubleshooting, including responding to high-pressure alarms Assist with weaning patients from mechanical ventilation Perform extubation and provide appropriate post-extubation care Perform airway management and suctioning procedures Place and manage nasal and oral airways Provide tracheostomy care and suctioning Perform pulmonary hygiene and collect sputum specimens Administer respiratory medications and aerosol treatments as ordered Provide oxygen therapy, including High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) and tracheostomy collar therapy Set up and administer aerosol treatments through masks, tracheostomies, handheld devices, T-pieces, and other delivery systems Interpret arterial blood gas results and communicate significant findings to the healthcare team Provide respiratory care during emergency situations and critical care interventions Assist with high-risk deliveries and newborn stabilization when required Perform umbilical blood gas procedures when required Provide respiratory support to pediatric and neonatal patients as needed Perform occasional EKGs after hours in support of the Cardiology Department Provide care to patients with a variety of respiratory and medical conditions, including
