A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Chief Respiratory Therapist, the Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for the operation and supervision of Respiratory Therapy in assigned areas of Westchester Medical Center. In addition, the incumbent of this position assists in providing instruction in respiratory techniques to hospital staff and students. Supervision is exercised over a number of respiratory therapists, technicians and students.Licenses/Certifications:
Possession of a valid license and current registration issued by the New York State Education Department as a Respiratory Therapist.Special Requirements:
Possession of registration as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care.Benefits
