Job Description

Overview Reliable Medical Supply is seeking a licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) to provide scheduled PRN/on-call coverage for our respiratory program. This position is designed for an experienced RT looking to supplement their current employment with limited, prearranged on-call coverage rather than a traditional part-time schedule. Coverage is generally 1-2 weekends per month, with additional opportunities to provide coverage during planned vacations or extended absences. Compensation This position includes a paid on-call stipend for scheduled coverage periods, with additional premium compensation for in-person call-outs. Paid stipend for assigned on-call coverage Additional hourly compensation for required in-person patient or facility visits Guaranteed minimum compensation for qualifying call-outs Mileage reimbursement for required patient travel Additional call-out compensation will be based on experience and discussed during the interview process. Schedule & Coverage This is a PRN/on-call position with no regular weekly shift schedule.
Coverage generally includes:
1-2 scheduled on-call weekends per month (Friday 5pm-Monday 9am) Additional prearranged vacation/PTO coverage Availability by phone during assigned on-call periods Occasional daytime RT responsibilities during extended coverage periods In-person patient or facility visits when an issue cannot appropriately be resolved remotely Coverage dates will be coordinated in advance whenever possible. Once a coverage period is accepted and scheduled, the backup RT will serve as the designated on-call Respiratory Therapist for that period. This is not an emergency-response position. Patients experiencing a medical emergency are directed to call 911 or seek emergency medical care. What You'll Do During assigned coverage, the Respiratory Therapist may: Respond to respiratory-related calls from patients, caregivers, healthcare facilities, hospice providers, and internal team members Troubleshoot respiratory equipment concerns by phone and determine the appropriate next step Provide clinical guidance regarding prescribed respiratory equipment and settings Perform in-home or facility visits when an issue requires in-person RT intervention Troubleshoot and assist with Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) equipment concerns and exchanges when issues cannot be resolved remotely Complete physician-ordered respiratory equipment setting changes when required Assist with NIV setups and provide patient and caregiver education as appropriate Provide clinical support to on-call service technicians Review physician orders, prescribed settings, equipment history, and patient documentation Coordinate with patients, caregivers, healthcare facilities, physicians, and internal team members as needed Complete required documentation accurately and timely Route nonclinical equipment and service needs to the appropriate on-call service technician Equipment & Clinical Experience Previous home respiratory, DME, NIV, ventilator, or home health experience is preferred. Experience with the following equipment is beneficial: Philips Trilogy EVO ResMed Astral Resvent iBreeze Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) equipment and related supplies Training will be provided on Reliable Medical Supply's specific equipment, systems, documentation requirements, workflows, and on-call procedures. Qualifications Current Respiratory Therapist credentials Current and unrestricted Respiratory Therapist license in the State of Kansas Current BLS certification Strong respiratory assessment and equipment troubleshooting skills Ability to work independently and exercise appropriate clinical judgment Dependable and responsive communication Reliable transportation Ability to travel throughout the Kansas City service area when an in-person visit is required Ability to use electronic systems and complete required patient documentation Previous home respiratory, DME, NIV, ventilator, or home health experience preferred Why This Role? This position offers an experienced Respiratory Therapist the opportunity to earn additional income while maintaining their existing work schedule. There are no regularly scheduled weekly shifts. Instead, coverage is planned in advance and generally limited to 1-2 weekends per month, with additional coverage opportunities available during planned absences. Because this position provides designated clinical coverage during scheduled on-call periods, reliability, communication, and the ability to work independently are essential.
