Job Description

HCA Healthcare is seeking a compassionate Respiratory Therapist RRT to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will assess, treat, and monitor patients with cardiopulmonary disorders across acute and critical care settings. Responsibilities include administering oxygen and aerosol therapies, managing ventilators, performing diagnostic tests, and responding to rapid response and code situations. You will collaborate closely with physicians and nurses, educate patients and families, ensure accurate documentation, and uphold safety, infection control, and regulatory standards while supporting our culture of teamwork and learning. Responsibilities Assess and monitor patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary disorders Administer oxygen, aerosol, bronchodilator, and humidity therapies per protocol and provider orders Set up, manage, and troubleshoot invasive and non-invasive ventilators and related respiratory equipment Obtain and analyze arterial blood gases; adjust therapies based on results and clinical status Perform respiratory diagnostics such as bedside spirometry and peak flow measurements Respond to rapid response and code blue events, assisting with airway management and resuscitation Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members on care plans Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, inhaler use, and home care strategies Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and maintain regulatory compliance Adhere to infection control, patient safety, and equipment maintenance standards Required Skills Mechanical ventilation management Arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation Respiratory assessment and care planning Airway management (oxygen therapy, suctioning, nebulizer treatments) Non-invasive ventilation (CPAP/Bi PAP) Pulmonary function and bedside spirometry testing Infection control and respiratory equipment sterilization Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation Code/rapid response participation Patient and family education on respiratory therapies
