What they do

A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description

Position Summary:
Functions as a direct patient care giver under the supervision of a Supervisor or assigned Team Leader.
Qualifications:
A.
Licensure:
Holds a current Texas license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP). B.
Credentials:
Holds a current Respiratory Therapist credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Certified Respiratory Therapist credential accepted (RRT eligible); Registered Respiratory Therapist credential preferred. Minimum of Associates Degree in Respiratory. C.
Certifications:
If Required Check and Initial. □ Current BLS Certification through the American Heart Association upon hire or transfer to department. □ Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire or transfer to department. □ Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire or transfer to department. □ Neonate Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire or transfer to department. □ STABLE Completion within 6 months of hire or transfer to department. □ Neonatal Pediatric Specialty credentials within 18 months of hire.

Ability to perform:
1. Heavy lifting 2. Sustained standing and walking 3. Work under stress 4. Varied work hours and shifts B. May encounter exposure to infectious diseases. C. Provides call coverage when Departmental Managers deem necessary.
