A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Respiratory Therapist Coralvita Richardson, TX Job Details 8 hours ago Qualifications BLS Certification State-specific respiratory therapist license Full Job Description Position Summary Responsible for providing efficient, quality-oriented patient care within the scope of the department's policy/procedure manual. Performs support activities such as equipment maintenance, changes, inventory, and sets up and operates various types of respiratory care equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and/or illness. Position Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises the following positions:
None Position Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of a Respiratory Therapy program required. Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or Certified Respiratory Therapist in the state of employment required. Current BLS certification from a CORALVITA-approved vendor required. ACLS certification from a CORALVITA-approved vendor required within six (6) months of hire.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
One (1) year critical care and/or artificial airway and ventilator care experience preferred. Ability to project a professional image. Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements. Strong organizational, prioritizing and analytical skills. Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant. Working knowledge of computer and software applications used in job functions. Freedom from illegal use of and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace. Certificates, Licensures, Registrations Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or Certified Respiratory Therapist in the state of employment required. Documented proof of obtained degrees for regulatory compliance purposes. Current BLS certification from a CORALVITA-approved vendor required. ACLS certification from a CORALVITA-approved vendor required within six (6) months of hire. Attendance Regular and punctual attendance. Language Skills English is the primary language of the facility. Job Function Approximate % of Time Complete initial assessments; deliver respiratory care in accordance with the goals and objectives of the plan of care and physician orders. Actively participates in the interdisciplinary team process and provides accurate reports of patient status according to established policies and procedures. Delivers care with consideration of developmental life stage of patient. 70% Consistently completes timely, concise and accurate documentation of assessments, progress notes, discharge summaries, and daily intervention notes for each treatment or service provided. Shares all information with team, attending team meetings, rounds, or patient conferences as directed. 10% Monitors inventory of supplies and equipment at bedside and storage areas to ensure resources are available. Completes equipment calibration and quality control procedures as established, participates in equipment maintenance, dis-infection, and sterilization of all respiratory equipment. 5% Provide patient, family and staff education as appropriate. 5% Participates in equipment maintenance, dis-infection, and sterilization of all respiratory equipment. Completes equipment calibration and quality control procedures as directed. Properly selects site and demonstrates appropriate puncture technique for blood gases. Knowledgeable of quality control lab testing, quality control parameters and documentation. Properly performs specimen testing for each i-STAT cartridge. Properly operates and maintains the i-STAT analyzer. Follows proper protocol for reporting panic values of i-STAT lab results. Ensures the i-STAT reports have complete clinical, and patient information. 5% Ensures the implementation, compliance, and monitoring of the Infection Control Program following all policies, procedures and safety regulations. 3% Remains current with literature and education related to departments for which responsible and maintains an updated methodology, tools, manuals and criteria as necessary and appropriate. 2% Additional Responsibilities Maintain excellent working relationships with co-workers, health care professionals and other health related facilities and organizations as appropriate. Promote Organization philosophy, mission and objectives within and to patients and customers outside the hospital.
