Job Description

Intermountain Health is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team as a traveler. In this role, you will deliver high-quality respiratory care, including assessments, treatments, ventilator management, and patient education across multiple care settings. You'll collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams in a patient-centered, mission-driven environment. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive respiratory assessments and implement individualized respiratory care plans for patients across acute and critical care settings Initiate, manage, and monitor invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation in accordance with physician orders and established protocols Administer aerosolized medications, oxygen therapy, and airway clearance techniques, adjusting therapy based on patient response and clinical data Perform arterial blood gas sampling, analysis, and basic interpretation to support clinical decision-making Respond to respiratory emergencies, rapid responses, and code blue events; assist with airway management, intubation, and extubation procedures Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and optimize patient care Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use (e.g., inhalers, nebulizers, home oxygen), and discharge/home-care instructions Rotate among multiple Intermountain Health hospitals or clinical sites as needed, adapting to different units, workflows, and patient populations Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards, and participate in quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives Required Skills Mechanical ventilation setup, titration, and troubleshooting Non-invasive ventilation (Bi

) management Arterial blood gas sampling, analysis, and interpretation Administration of aerosolized medications and oxygen therapy Airway clearance techniques (e.g., CPT, suctioning, high-flow devices) Emergency and critical care respiratory support, including participation in rapid response and code events Operation of respiratory care equipment (ventilators, high-flow nasal cannula, nebulizers, oxygen delivery devices) Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation Knowledge of respiratory pathophysiology and evidence-based respiratory care protocols Interdisciplinary collaboration and clinical communication Patient and family education on respiratory therapies and equipment Infection control and safety practices in hospital settings Adaptability to new units, workflows, and facility policies as a traveler therapist
