A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

1 Description American Traveler is seeking a Level 4 NICU Respiratory Therapist for a night shift position at a children's hospital requiring RRT certification and NICU experience. Details Work in the NICU at a children's hospital Level 4 NICU patient population Night shift schedule (4x12 hours, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM) Can offer 36 or 48 hours per week Every other weekend and every other holiday required Unit uses a self-scheduling model, though desired schedules are not guaranteed Float within scope of practice as needed 13-week contract length Requirements Minimum 1 year of NICU and PICU experience required Level 4 NICU experience required Cardiac PICU experience preferred Teaching hospital experience preferred BSN preferred RRT, BLS, and NRP certifications required PALS certification preferred ACCS certification preferred VA state license required if applicable Epic EMR experience required Two professional references required Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs) skill required Additional Information Provide respiratory care to critically ill neonatal and pediatric patients in a Level 4 NICU setting Work with specialized equipment including High Frequency Jet Ventilator, Oscillating Ventilator, and Nitric Oxide (iNO) therapy Perform airway management including intubation assist, extubation, and tracheostomy care Assist with high-risk deliveries and neonatal transports Administer medications via aerosol, MDI, and nebulizer delivery systems Care for patients with conditions such as ARDS, respiratory distress syndrome, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and cystic fibrosis First-time travelers are welcome to apply Maximum 40 hours of requested time off per 13-week contract, which must be disclosed prior to submission Previous UVA permanent staff or traveler employment requires 1-year separation and leadership approval, with external travelers limited to 365 total assignment days No radius restriction for this position
