Develop, implement, and modify individualized respiratory therapy treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare providers. Administer prescribed respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, inhalation treatments, bronchopulmonary hygiene, and therapeutic gas administration. Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot respiratory care equipment, including mechanical ventilators and related life-support systems. Monitor patient response to therapy through clinical observation, vital signs, arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry, and other diagnostic measures. Recommend modifications to treatment plans based on patient progress and changing clinical conditions. Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding respiratory conditions, medications, home equipment, breathing techniques, and ongoing treatment plans. Coordinate discharge planning and ensure continuity of care through home programs, equipment recommendations, outpatient services, and home health referrals. Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, case managers, social workers, and other members of the healthcare team. Supervise and provide guidance to respiratory therapy assistants, technicians, and support personnel as appropriate. Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, outcomes, and clinical communications in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. Maintain patient confidentiality while complying with HIPAA and organizational privacy standards. Follow infection prevention, safety, and quality assurance protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, program development, and departmental growth opportunities. Assist in mentoring, training, and developing respiratory therapy staff through education and in-service programs. Maintain compliance with all federal, state, licensing, accreditation, and professional standards.
