What they do

A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description:
Responsible for providing patient/family education, quality patient care, physician assistance, properly performing diagnostic and therapeutic tests/procedures, maintaining a safe working environment and properly functioning equipment.
Respiratory Care:
Additionally, responsible for supervising respiratory care students by providing guidance, instruction, and evaluation during clinical rotations to ensure adherence to professional standards and promote the development of their clinical skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
Wisconsin Respiratory Therapist license and registration required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 6 months of hire.
