The Wardlaw School is dedicated to serving children with average to superior intelligence and mild to moderate language-based learning disabilities, including dyslexia (reading disability). Children accepted into the Wardlaw School may exhibit underlying auditory and/or language processing problems that make it difficult for them to learn in their present educational setting. Our students are between the ages of 5 and 12 years old and are in kindergarten through 6th grade. Wardlaw School students typically have a diagnosis of dyslexia or "red flags" for the disorder. They may also have difficulty understanding and/or using spoken language, expressing themselves through written language, or experience mathematical disabilities.POSITION SUMMARY
The Wardlaw School for children with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities is currently seeking an outstanding professional to serve as a speech-language pathologist in our multidisciplinary, collaborative educational environment. The Wardlaw School encourages all of its students, educators, specialists and clinicians to be engaged, perpetual learners.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Plan and implement appropriate interventions for children with mild-to-moderate language-based learning disabilities. Derive remediation strategies and goals from students' psycho-educational evaluations as well as from diagnostic therapy, testing, and teaching. Evaluate students as needed to further define language strengths and weaknesses. Interpret language difficulties in terms of their impact on academic progress. Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to establish and implement appropriate language goals for each student in the classroom. Provide individual and small-group "pull-out" therapy, as well as whole-class language instruction, as appropriate. Complete speech and language sections for two written reports per school year and participate in parent-teacher conferences. Communicate effectively with parents and teachers. Serve a typical full-time caseload of 3 classrooms (36 students). A Master's degree in speech/language pathology, ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence, and a valid Georgia license in Speech/Language Pathology are required. Experience in a school setting is desirable, and a background or experience in learning disabilities is a plus.
