Job Description
OhioHealth is seeking a compassionate Speech Pathologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will assess, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders across diverse care settings. You'll collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop individualized treatment plans, provide caregiver education, and document progress. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive evaluation of speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders for adult and/or pediatric patients. Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans to address functional communication and swallowing needs. Provide direct therapy in inpatient, outpatient, and/or home-health settings, adjusting interventions based on patient progress and goals. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, case managers, and social workers to coordinate interdisciplinary care. Educate patients, families, and caregivers on communication strategies, compensatory techniques, and home exercise programs. Conduct and interpret swallowing assessments, including bedside evaluations and participation in instrumental assessments as appropriate (e.g., VFSS, FEES, per institutional practice). Document evaluations, treatment sessions, progress notes, and discharge summaries accurately and timely in the electronic medical record. Participate in discharge planning to support safe transitions of care and appropriate follow-up services. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, outcome tracking, and clinical program development within the speech-language pathology service. Engage in continuing education, competency development, and mentorship to maintain current best practices and support professional growth. Required Skills Speech and language assessment and intervention Swallowing (dysphagia) assessment and treatment Knowledge of neurological and developmental communication disorders Development and implementation of individualized treatment plans Use and interpretation of standardized assessment tools Patient and family education and counseling Interdisciplinary care coordination and communication Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation Clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice Time management and caseload prioritization Basic Life Support (BLS) procedures Familiarity with instrumental swallowing assessments (e.g., VFSS, FEES) as per site practice AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) strategies (preferred) Pediatric and/or adult medical speech pathology skills, depending on assignment
