What they do
A Speech Language Pathologist diagnoses and treats speech, language, and swallowing disorders in patients with a variety of conditions. Helps patients improve their ability to make sounds or use language, or develop non-spoken means of communication. May specialize in working with patients of a certain age group, or treat speech problems resulting from a condition such as a stroke or cleft palate. Works in schools, hospitals and other healthcare facilities and works closely with physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other therapists.

Performs comprehensive speech therapy evaluations, treatment and related follow-up services, including discharge planning. Develops a treatment plan with measurable goals based on patient assessment. Completes appropriate goal re-assessment and discharge planning. Provides speech therapy, including selection and use of assistive equipment. Trains and educates patients and family members or other support, and documents understanding of treatment plan and goals. Documents and submits patient reports and charges within the established timeframe. Collaborates with patient and other healthcare personnel or outside agencies regarding coordination of care. Supervises Rehab Technicians. Qualifications Required Master's Degree Speech Speech Pathologist (SPE)- State Licensing Board Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- American Heart Association Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)
- ASHA (American Speech-Lanuage-Hearing Association)
