A Speech Language Pathologist diagnoses and treats speech, language, and swallowing disorders in patients with a variety of conditions. Helps patients improve their ability to make sounds or use language, or develop non-spoken means of communication. May specialize in working with patients of a certain age group, or treat speech problems resulting from a condition such as a stroke or cleft palate. Works in schools, hospitals and other healthcare facilities and works closely with physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other therapists.
Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital setting. Speech-Language Patholigst to evaluate and develop effective patient treatment plans to restore, maintain or prevent decline of patient function, by planning and administering medically prescribed therapy treatments in accordance with federal, state and professional standards and inconjunction with interdisciplinary team members Meets the patient's goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining treatment plans in consultation with physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. Administers therapy sessions according to a treatment plan approved by the attending physician. Complies with company protocol for patient care. Evaluates effects of therapy treatments by observing, noting and evaluating patient's progress; providing medically necessary treatment plan and modifications. Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by instructing patients, families and/or caregivers in follow-up maintenance programs, recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records according to guidelines. Records daily treatment charges per corporate procedures. Protects patients and employees by adhering to treatment location infection control policies and protocols and keeping information confidential per company and federal requirements. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with treatment location and department procedures, rules and regulations. This position provides services in multiple settings as determined by supervisor and patient/resident need between Acadiana Rehabilitation Hospital (primary work location) and Iberia Rehabilitation Hospital (secondary work location). This Full-Time position will be completed Monday through Friday, with the addition of some Saturdays/Holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree from accrediated Speech-Language Pathology program and hold ASHA CCCs Certificate of Clinical Competence. Current license as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Louisiana. Current CPR certification, preferred Experience with Dysphagia, Trachs and PMVs, Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias, TBI, CVA, Voice Disorders, Developmental Delays, Dysarthria, Apraxia and related Speech and Language Therapy services.
