275133 Treatment of adults with communication and swallowing disorders, with specific focus disorders related to head and neck cancer. Evaluation of adults with speech and swallowing disorders, including pre- and post-laryngectomy. Documentation of clinical findings, adhering to regulatory agency and insurance requirements. Education of patients and families regarding communication and swallowing disorders. Diagnose speech, language and cognitive-communicative disorders. Evaluate voice disorders. Evaluate oral-pharyngeal swallowing disorders, using clinical as well as instrumental evaluation tools. Design and implement treatment programs to facilitate improved communication and swallowing skills. Maintain standards of clinical productivity. Counsel patients and their families concerning social, behavioral, and psychological problems associated with communication and swallowing disorders. Provide documentation of evaluation data, test/re-test data and speech-language progress, in accordance with insurance and regulatory agency requirements. Provide patients and families with recommendations and referrals to appropriate health care sources. Participate in patient evaluation conferences with emphasis on discharge planning and referrals pertinent to continued rehabilitation and/or stabilization of clinical gains. Provide assistance to medical and rehabilitation team members about the most feasible communication pathways to help the patient achieve maximum understanding of medical information and rehabilitation techniques. Participate in research and the preparation of papers for publication or presentations related to communication and swallowing disorders. Participate in staff meetings regarding individual patients with physicians, nurses, insurance representatives and allied health professionals. Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas. Perform other related duties as assigned Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of Michigan. A Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) awarded by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA), or eligibility to initiate a Clinical Fellowship. This classification requires Primary Source Verification. Progressively complex experience with the assessment and treatment of speech, resonance, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. Previous experience with videofluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing is desirable. Previous experience with assessment/treatment of patients status post laryngectomy is desirable. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Full Time Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm This position requires in frequent standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients. This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment. Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. ground screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses. Job openings are posted for a minimum of seven calendar days. The review and selection process may begin as early as the eighth day after posting.
