What they do
A Speech Language Pathologist diagnoses and treats speech, language, and swallowing disorders in patients with a variety of conditions. Helps patients improve their ability to make sounds or use language, or develop non-spoken means of communication. May specialize in working with patients of a certain age group, or treat speech problems resulting from a condition such as a stroke or cleft palate. Works in schools, hospitals and other healthcare facilities and works closely with physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other therapists.

Duties:
- Conduct assessments and develop individualized treatment plans for clients with developmental disabilities, particularly autism
- Implement evidence-based behavioral interventions and strategies to address speech challenges and promote development
- Provide direct one-on-one speech therapy to children with special needs
- Collect and analyze data to monitor progress and make data-driven decisions regarding treatment plans
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including parents, teachers, and other professionals to ensure coordinated care and consistent implementation of interventions
- Provide training and support to parents, caregivers, and other team members on speech management techniques and strategies
- Stay up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in the field of speech pathology and special education
Skills:
- Board Certification as a Speech Pathologist
- Experience working with children with developmental disabilities, particularly autism
- Strong knowledge of speech principles and techniques
- Ability to conduct functional speech assessments and develop speech treatment plans
- Proficient in data collection and analysis to inform treatment decisions
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with clients, families, and team members
- Strong organizational skills to manage caseloads, documentation, and scheduling
