Speech and Language Pathologist Portage Public Schools - ECSE Full-Time Per PEA Contract 2026-27
School Year Job Summary:
The Speech Language Pathologist is primarily responsible for providing speech and language services for students with communication disorders between the ages of 3 and 18. This includes evaluation of students with suspected or identified communication disorders, and the development, management, and coordination of speech and language services. The Speech Language Pathologist has the expertise to make decisions regarding students' communication services. Decisions regarding a student are based on the multidisciplinary team's evaluation and the determination of the IEP team. Speech Language Pathologists are required to perform duties other than direct services that are essential to the appropriate management of each student.Responsibilities:
The duties of the Speech Language Pathologist may include, but are not limited to, the following: Identify and diagnose speech and language impairments of eligible persons in the assigned service area. Process referrals from appropriate sources. Make appropriate referrals when additional services within the district may be necessary Provide information concerning speech and language to other professionals and parents Manage an appropriate caseload in the assigned service area Provide direct/indirect services to students consistent with current rules and regulations Provide service to eligible pre-school children Communicate and collaborate with educational staff and families Maintain records for caseload students with required documentation Develop and appropriate schedule Complete required forms including Transfers, IEPs, METs, 3-year Re-evaluations, and Service Capture within the appropriate time frames Transport materials and testing kits between buildings as needed Perform necessary evaluation procedures, including oral-motor examinations, hearing screenings, and assistive technology assessments as appropriate Regularly collaborate with professional team members regarding student performance and progress Participate in building level student support teams, staff meetings, and school improvement meetings, as well as required professional development Provide own transportation between therapy locations and meetings Perform other duties as assigned Regular and consistent attendance Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook The above duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the nature of the work by this position. Qualifications Master's degree or higher, including all courses required to meet credential requirements Licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Michigan Certificate of Clinical Competency or eligibility for Clinical Fellowship year Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record Minimum 2 to 5 years' experience Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district staff and the public Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment Proficient computer and document skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
