What they do
A Speech Language Pathologist diagnoses and treats speech, language, and swallowing disorders in patients with a variety of conditions. Helps patients improve their ability to make sounds or use language, or develop non-spoken means of communication. May specialize in working with patients of a certain age group, or treat speech problems resulting from a condition such as a stroke or cleft palate. Works in schools, hospitals and other healthcare facilities and works closely with physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other therapists.

Job Description Essential Job functions : Interest in development and implementation of a speech language program within the Ear Nose and Throat Department including close collaboration with other specialties Perform comprehensive speech, language, and communications evaluations Instructs the patient and caregiver of the home speech therapy program.Treat disorders of:
Articulation and phonology Expressive and receptive language Fluency/stuttering Voice Cognitive-communication Social/pragmatic communication Evaluate and treat swallowing disorders (dysphagia) Perform fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) procedure Perform or participate in Modified Barium Swallows Studies (MBSS) when appropriately trained and permitted by state/facility requirements Develop individualized treatment plans and measurable goals Provide therapeutic interventions and patient/caregiver education Document evaluations, treatment sessions, progress, and discharge recommendations inEPIC HER
Collaborate with ENT surgeons, referring providers, clinical teams, and all healthcare professionals Recommend appropriate diet modifications, compensatory swallowing strategies, and communication supports when indicated Maintain appropriate licensure, certification, and continuing education General Job functions: Maintain certification in the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment Protocol Interpret instrumental and non-instrumental assessment of swallowing, including determining safety Other job duties as requiredPhysical Job Requirements:
Endurance (e.g. continuous typing, prolonged standing/bending, walking) Dexterity of hands and fingersEducation, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred 2-4 years required. 5+ years preferred Head and Neck Cancer experience preferred Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech, Hearing and Language Association required. State license in Speech-Language Pathology. Experience conducting videostroboscopy Strong knowledge of Fiber optic Endoscopic Examination of Swallowing (FEES) required Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required Strong interpersonal, problem solving and critical thinking skills required Experience with Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail) Experience with Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment preferred About Our Commitment Total Rewards at VillageMD Our team members are essential to our mission to reshape healthcare through the power of connection.
