JOB DESCRIPTION
I.
Qualifications The SLP must:
1.Possess a valid Rhode Island certification as a Speech Language Pathologist. 2.Have knowledge of and experience in diagnosing speech and language delays and disorders, developing individual education plans, providing speech and language therapy services. 3.Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, teachers, and other school professionals. 4.Have knowledge of the special education eligibility process and RtI. 5.Be organized, flexible and prepared. 6.Understand autism and challenging behavior or social/emotional issues and use effective strategies to assist children. 7.Use current technology in service delivery and other aspects of practice. II.Supervisor The immediate supervisor of the SLP shall be the Director of Special Services. III.Compensation The compensation of the SLP shall be as per terms of the contract between the Federation and the School Committee. IV.Duties and Responsibilities The SLP shall be responsible for: 1.Participating in the Evaluation Team process (screening referrals, reviewing data, sharing information and making recommendations). 2.Performing speech and language screenings as needed. 3.Performing speech and language evaluations (initial evaluations, periodic re-evaluations, exit evaluations). 4.Working cooperatively with teachers, parents and other professionals for development of appropriate educational plans. 5.Consulting/collaborating with teachers and parents as necessary to optimize speech and language functioning. 6.Providing speech and language services to address the communicative needs of individual students as delineated in Individual Education Plans. 7.Providing speech and language services as part of RtI to general education students. 8.Clinical supervision of other SLP's as necessary to meet American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) certification guidelines, with appropriate adjustment of other duties. 9.Appropriate billing procedures. 10.Consulting with professionals and/or attending professional development on current topics, i.e. apraxia and motor development, new technology devices, equipment, software, applications and augmentative communication. 11.Using data to monitor progress for IEP goals or RtI. 12.Working collaboratively within the curriculum and literacy frameworks. 13.Any other duties assigned by the Director of Special Services. V.Materials and Work Space The SLP shall be provided with: 1.All necessary supplies for implementing the duties and responsibilities of said SLP. 2.Space and conditions conducive to privacy of assessments/consultations and delivery of therapeutic services.
