Job Description

Join our team as we expand our inpatient rehabilitation services. This position offers a unique opportunity for Clinical Fellows seeking to grow their skills within a supportive team of rehabilitation professionals. Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation is seeking an Inpatient Speech Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow . This position will be a 40-hour full-time, salaried position. We are looking for individuals who desire to serve on a multidisciplinary team dedicated to quality patient care. Our SLPs enjoy collaborating and working together to make sure we provide the best patient care possible across the Siskin Hospital therapy services continuum; from our inpatient rehabilitation hospital, to subacute, to outpatient, and beyond. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS
(education, experience, licensure, certification, and/or specific skills) •time frame for proficiency where appropriate
Education:
Master's degree or higher in communication disorders.
Experience:
Experience in the evaluation and treatment of adult patients with dysphagia and neurogenic communication/cognitive disorders is required. Any additional experience with voice, brain injury, LSVT training, and/or laryngectomy would be a plus. Applicants must hold a current Tennessee SLP license or be eligible for a Tennessee license. Clinical fellows who have a strong background with adults in their graduate clinical placements will also be considered.
Licensure/Certification:
Eligible for Clinical Fellowship Year or Certificate of Clinical competence (CCC) from ASHA; Hold or eligible for Tennessee license in Speech-Language Pathology; CPR Certification through
American Heart Association Skills/Competencies:
Must demonstrate good judgment and appropriate respect for persons with a variety of disabilities and challenging behaviors. Must meet competency requirements during the first 30 days of employment for the evaluation and treatment of communication disorders, cognition, and dysphagia. May be required to meet other competency requirements such as interpretation of modified barium/videofluoroscopic swallow function studies.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS I.
Physical Requirements 1. Position requires ability to frequently push/pull more than 50 pounds/objects (wheelchairs and patients). Position requires ability to frequently lift light objects less than 20 pounds. 2. Position frequently requires adequate coordination to maneuver patient into appropriate position in office/patient room. 3. Position requires ability to constantly sit for prolonged periods during individual sessions and to stand for prolonged periods during group sessions. Incumbent must frequently also be required to assume uncomfortable positions during treatment sessions. 4. Position requires incumbent to constantly be able to distinguish sounds as in voice and articulation evaluation and training. II. Mental Requirements 1. Conceptualization - Position requires ability to constantly understand and relate theories behind several related concepts. 2. Flexibility - Position requires use of patience and diplomacy during interaction with diverse personalities of patients, family members, staff and visitors.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS 1.
Employee may be occasionally exposed to radiation during modified barium/videofluroscopic swallow function studies. 2. Employee may frequently be exposed to body fluids or infectious diseases during therapy. 3. Employee may occasionally be exposed to hazardous chemical materials used in the cleaning of equipment.
