Job Description

Middle Tennessee Homes Speech-Language Pathologist Roles and Responsibilities:
SLP needed to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment to meet the communication and mealtime/swallowing needs of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities No insurance billing required! All SLP services are state funded through the Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Provide consultation-based communication and swallowing services to adults with IDD in Middle Tennessee Homes with direct services as needed Provide intensive communication and swallowing services to children currently in DCS custody being served through TN Strong Family Home at Middle Tennessee Homes Complete an annual assessment pertaining to swallowing, choking risk, and communication for each resident Provide recommendations for action steps for individualized support plans Request orders for videofluoroscopic swallow studies and attend swallow studies as indicated Order communication devices/environmental control units as needed Complete monthly and quarterly monitoring to ensure fidelity staff-implemented plans Initiate and facilitate staff training to ensure proper implementation of mealtime and communication interventions Provide onboarding training for new staff/nurses Provide assessment consultation for residents at The Harold Jordan Center as needed and provide treatment/discharge recommendations This position is working with adults and children in a community-base with developmental and intellectual disability.
The position requires the following:
Availability 37.5 hours per week to complete the below: \
  • Evaluate individuals annually or as needed. \
  • Communicate with individuals when appropriate and staff to evaluate the person's level of speech or language difficulty. \
  • Determine the extent of communication problems by completing standardized tests on individuals. Identify treatment options (i.e. AAC, ECU, and/or communication interaction inventory). \
  • Create and carry out an individualized treatment plan and monitor progress. \
  • Complete monthly progress notes and attend pertinent circle of support meetings.
Experience with adults who are intellectually and developmentally disabled preferred. SLP would meet with residents in their respective homes. 36 people reside in MTHs. Currently, of those 36, 5 people have formal Communication Programs (data is collected weekly by staff and reviewed monthly by SLP). 22 (including the 5 with formal programs) of the 36 have some type of communication system in place requiring monitoring and addressing needs when needed.

$50.00 per hour
