Salary:

$21.40 - $41.47 Earn up to $.60/hour extra, based on the number of college-level credits you have earned.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The paraeducator will assist certified staff in providing assessment, therapy and consultation services for students ages Birth-21 who have a variety of communication disorders. Services may be provided individually, in small groups, classroom, and natural environment settings. The paraeducator functions as a member of a team in programming for all disabled students. The paraeducator consults and collaborates with SLPs, regular and special education teachers.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Speech Language Pathology Assistant Certification.

Must attach unofficial transcript proving Bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology to application or the SLPA Certificate. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.

Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.

Must pass a basic skills test.

Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.

Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.

Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.

Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.

Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.

Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.

Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.

Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in speech language/communication.

Academic background which includes speech pathology and/or audiology

Experience working with students in individual and group settings.

Experience facilitating programs for communication disordered students.

Experience keeping data for IEP goals/objectives.

Experience working with IEP teams.

Experience carrying out prescribed instructional and behavioral management program.

Understanding of Federal and state laws pertaining to disabled students.

Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.

Excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, self-disciplined, and a self-starter.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES

Provide direct therapy to students with supervision from a Speech and Language Pathologist.

Provide services to students in a variety of settings and formats.

Correctly follow specific directions from the SLP for intervention and data collection.

May be required to complete additional paperwork such as Medicaid billing documentation.

May be required to create therapy materials as requested.

Complete required paperwork with accuracy and efficiency to maintain compliance with state and school district regulations.

Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Mobility:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull up to 50 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Sense:

The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Lifting:

The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. with help; must also be able to lift overhead.
