A Speech Language Pathology Assistant assists licensed speech language pathologists in treating people with speech and language or other communication disorders or swallowing disorders. Assists with screening and helps patients with therapy activities. Works with adults or children and helps to treat a variety of speech disorders or communication problems created by stroke or injury.

Position Overview:
The Part-Time Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the school's speech-language program by providing direct student services under the supervision and direction of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. This two-day-per-week position is designed to increase direct-service capacity and allow the school's full-time SLP to dedicate appropriate time to evaluations, IEP responsibilities, consultation, case management, and other responsibilities requiring an SLP's professional licensure.
Core Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Direct Student Services Provide individual and small-group speech-language services as directed by the supervising SLP and in accordance with students' IEPs. Implement treatment activities and intervention plans developed by the supervising SLP. Support students working on articulation, phonological, receptive and expressive language, pragmatic communication, fluency, and other communication goals within the SLPA's authorized scope of practice. Follow established therapy plans, instructional strategies, and behavior-support procedures. Prepare materials and activities necessary for student therapy sessions. Documentation and Progress Monitoring Maintain accurate documentation of student attendance and services provided. Collect and record student performance data during therapy sessions. Communicate student progress, concerns, and relevant observations to the supervising SLP. Assist with preparation of therapy materials and organization of student records as permitted. Support progress monitoring and data collection under the direction of the supervising SLP. Collaboration Work closely with the supervising SLP to ensure consistency and continuity of services. Collaborate appropriately with teachers, special education staff, paraprofessionals, and other service providers. Participate in team meetings, training, and consultation when appropriate and within the SLPA's scope of practice. Maintain professional communication and confidentiality regarding students and families. Scope of Practice The SLPA works under the supervision of a qualified Speech-Language Pathologist and performs only duties permitted under applicable Colorado requirements and the established supervisory plan.
The SLPA does not independently:
Conduct or interpret diagnostic evaluations. Determine eligibility for special education services. Develop or modify IEP goals or service recommendations. Diagnose communication disorders. Make independent clinical decisions regarding student treatment. Discharge students from speech-language services. Perform responsibilities otherwise reserved for a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. Qualifications Meets all Colorado requirements to practice as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant. Appropriate education, registration, certification, or authorization as required by Colorado law and applicable school requirements. Experience working with elementary-aged children preferred. Ability to implement therapy plans and collect accurate student performance data. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and respond effectively to feedback and supervision.
Position Structure:
This is a two-day-per-week/16 hours per week support position working in partnership with the school's full-time Speech-Language Pathologist. The primary emphasis of the position is direct student service delivery, increasing the team's capacity to meet student IEP service minutes while allowing the supervising SLP additional capacity for evaluations, IEP development, consultation, case management, and other SLP-level responsibilities.
