Aug 25, 2026 Job Description Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) - 2026-2027
Description:
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) provides direct and indirect speech and language services to students with communication disorders under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). The SLPA supports the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and therapy programs designed by the SLP. Qualifications Current certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant in the State of Oregon (or ability to obtain). Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. Knowledge of speech and language development and AAC systems. Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families from diverse backgrounds. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to follow direction and work under supervision. Valid Oregon driver's license and reliable transportation. Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills preferred.
Responsibilities:
Implement speech and language therapy activities as outlined in IEPs and treatment plans developed by the SLP. Provide direct support to students individually and in small groups to reinforce skills identified by the SLP. Collect and document data on student performance and progress; share updates regularly with the SLP. Assist with speech, language, and hearing screenings without interpretation. Support the SLP during assessments (excluding administration or interpretation). Prepare instructional materials and complete clerical tasks as assigned. Program and support use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems as directed. Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions. Communicate effectively with students, staff, and families in collaboration with the SLP. Travel between school sites as needed and maintain a flexible schedule. Attend staff meetings, trainings, and in-service opportunities. Maintain a safe, organized, and supportive learning environment. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Environment & Physical Demands Work is performed in school settings with occasional travel between sites. Regularly requires standing, walking, and interacting with students. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Noise levels may vary depending on student needs and activities. Supervision The SLPA works under the direct supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. All services are delivered in accordance with state regulations and district guidelines. Scope of Practice The SLPA may implement and support therapy services as directed by the SLP but may not independently evaluate, diagnose, develop treatment plans, or communicate with families without SLP involvement.
Contract:
Starting for the 2026-27 School Year. 0.4 FTE, 185-day annual contract (in response to approved District calendar). Salary and benefits per the Classified negotiated agreement.
