Job Description

Piedmont Healthcare is seeking a Central Sterile Tech for the Main OR on the night shift. In this role, you will decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and equipment to support safe, timely surgeries. You will inspect trays for completeness and function, operate sterilization equipment, and follow strict infection control standards and documentation requirements. Working in a collaborative, patient-centered culture, you'll partner closely with OR staff, receive ongoing training, and grow your skills within a respected, statewide non-profit health system. Responsibilities Decontaminate, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment for Main OR cases Operate and monitor autoclaves and other sterilization equipment per manufacturer and infection control standards Inspect instrument sets for cleanliness, function, and completeness; troubleshoot and report issues Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, biological indicators, and tray tracking Manage inventory and rotation of instruments, disposables, and case carts for night shift surgeries Collaborate with OR nurses, techs, and support staff to meet case schedules and urgent needs Follow all infection prevention, safety, and regulatory guidelines (e.g., AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission) Participate in ongoing training, competency checks, and quality improvement initiatives Required Skills Sterile processing Surgical instrument identification Autoclave operation Decontamination procedures Tray assembly and packaging Infection control standards Use of tracking/labeling systems Quality control inspection Inventory management Operating room workflow coordination
