Job Description

GENERAL DUTIES
Assists nurses and surgical scrub techs in various procedures and maintains the sterilization process of all instrumentation, and all sterilization monitoring and records.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Frequent standing and walking or other means pf mobility for extended periods of time. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to germicidal agents and anesthesia gases. Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.
WORKING CONDITIONS
May be exposed to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Cleans, decontaminates, wraps, and sterilizes equipment and instruments. Assembles instruments, equipment, and supplies required for surgical procedures according to Physician s preference Cards. Monitors biological indicators for evidence of complete sterilization Maintains sterilization records Maintains supplies and restocks Central Service and implant trays Maintains proficiency in knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and A.O.R.N. standards of asepsis. Participates in the performance Improvement related to sterilization with the assistance of the registered nurse.. Assist to turn over cases as needed (mopping of floors, etc) to help turner over time between cases. Performs routine cleaning of Autoclave, Steris and Sterrad and maintains sterility log. Notifies Manager if repairs are needed.
OTHER JOB DUTIES
Maintains the rights, dignity, and confidentiality of the patient. Participates in the OSC emergency, fire, and disaster drills. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations. Follows all OSC Policies and Procedures. Attends required in-services and educational programs. Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of the principles and practices techniques of medical and surgical care to assist in providing patient care and treatment. Knowledge of surgical positioning of patients. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, treatment, and surgical procedure. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to communicate clearly
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or equivalent. Completion of course for Central Service/Surgical Techology from a accredited school. Certification as a surgical technologist/Central Service technologist preferred.
EXPERIENCE
One to three years of experience in a hospital operating room setting as Certified Surgical Technician/Central Service technician or equivalent work experience.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE CPR
Certification.
