  • Completion of an accredited Central Sterile Processing course preferred but not required.
  • Certification (CRCST or CBSPD) is required within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to lift 25-50lbs and stand for long periods.
  • Basic computer skills
POSITION SUMMARY
Sterile Processing Technician I is responsible for basic decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical devices under close supervision. This position serves as the entry point for individuals with little to no prior experience, providing foundational knowledge and skills in sterile processing.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Certification (CRCST or CBSPD) is required within 12 months of hire.
EXPERIENCE
  • Completion of an accredited Central Sterile Processing course preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in a healthcare, clinical, or regulated environment (preferred but not required)
  • Experience in roles required: o Strict adherence to procedures and policies o Attention to detail and quality checks o Manual, hands-on work performed for extended periods o Use of PPE and compliance with safety protocols o
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
  • Perform decontamination of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, function, and defects.
  • Assemble and wrap instrument sets according to count sheets.
  • Load/unload sterilizers and maintain accurate sterilization records.
  • Follow departmental protocols, AAMI, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens along with infectious diseases. (Refers to Blood Bourne Pathogen requirement) Essential functions of this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Sterile Processing Technician I reports directly to the Sterile Processing Supervisor or Manager. This position works under direct supervision and receives day-to-day guidance and oversight from assigned Lead technicians or Preceptor.
