Job Description

SUMMARY:
A multi-skilled role for maintaining and facilitating the flow of surgical supplies, instrumentation throughout the sterile core. Responsible for facilitating the work flow and work efficiencies of the Periop Assistant staff to support the needs of the operating room. Provide superior customer service by modeling the Brand Promise and Core Values.

Day/Evening/Night Key Responsibilities:
Coordinates, assigns, and facilitates the daily tasks for perioperative assistants. Prints case pick list daily and assures list matches next day surgical schedule, Prints add on pick list as required. Assures all cases are picked and complete. Provides coverage for Materials Supervisors as needed, Assists with schedules, PTO requests and on call scheduling, Available to provide oncall coverage as directed. Attends SPD/Purchasing meetings to assure needed supplies and instrumentation available for all cases. Works closely with Materials Supervisor and OR staff communicating all equipment and supply needs. Recognizes unanticipated requests and responds appropriately. Interacts with Surgeons to ensure requests are acknowledged and either fulfilled, or communicates to appropriate team members. Assists with moving and/or positioning patients providing necessary comfort measures, assists with application of protective devices, and adheres to principles of surgical asepsis with a comprehensive understanding of universal precautions. Maintains and tracks instrument repair, ensures that all equipment is intact and functioning appropriately before use. Maintains and submits yearly MSDS updates- safe environment. Cleans, decontaminates, and sterilizes instrumentation according to established policy and procedures, when required. Operates mechanical and electrical equipment according to manufacturer's instructions, maintains sterilization equipment in sub-sterile areas, keeps freezer and refrigerator logs, and notifies Clinical Manager with maintenance issues. Complies with established Hospital and unit policies and procedures related to work schedule and environment. Adheres to UH core values and consistently provides customer focused interactions at all levels in a caring, respectful, courteous and compassionate manner. Completes annual competencies and UHS mandatory annual requirements. Initiates action effectively in an emergency situation. Complies with safety and emergency procedures consistent with policies and procedures. Interacts and collaborates effectively with OR team, Distribution, Decontamination, Purchasing, Pharmacy, Clinical Engineering and Maintenance, participates on appropriate committees as assigned.
Desired Attributes:
One year OR experience preferred. Proficient with computers. Reads, writes and speaks English. Good interpersonal and communication skills.

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting. For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements. 14626 The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
