Sterile Processing Technician (ON-CALL)

$25.60-$31.38 (CERTIFIED)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the effective cleaning, inspection, maintenance, proper sterilization and distribution of sterile instrumentation and equipment. Is a team player and works collaboratively with the OR to ensure all supplies, instrumentation and equipment are available for surgical cases as well as other procedures requiring sterile supplies and/or instrumentation. Assists the nurses and physicians in delivering the highest standard of patient care available. Is knowledgeable in sterile processing standards and serves as a patient safety advocate.

Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience/Licenses/Certificates/Eligibility:

High School diploma or GED Current Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required prior to start date . Basic computer skills

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Successful completion of a sterile processing course. Or 1 year of healthcare experience. 1 year of Sterile Processing experience.

Skills/Knowledge/Ability:
Interpersonal:

Effective communication skills; oral and written. Demonstrates a positive, friendly, and courteous manner. Serves as a role model to other staff members. Demonstrates the ability to work well with other employees.

Critical Thinking:

Ability to clean and assemble instruments, organize equipment, instruments, and supplies in department and in case carts according to preference cards. Ability to adhere to the work schedule and manage time appropriately. Assumes responsibility for competency and takes initiative for professional development and continuing education. Ability to handle stress associated with prioritizing multiple tasks. Above average organization skills.

Knowledge:

Working knowledge and experience in a hospital, sterile processing department, or ambulatory surgery center. Ability to anticipate the needs of the OR and has trays, instruments, and supplies readily available for all procedures. Ensures that an adequate number of in-house trays, instruments and supplies are available in accordance with daily/weekly caseload.

MACHINES, EQUIPMENT, WORK AIDES

Computer and telephone. Standard surgical instrument use and processing, equipment, and medical supplies. Autoclaves and washer/sterilizer.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Occasional overtime. Must handle stress in meeting time demands.
