In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper sterilization, decontamination, and preparation of surgical instruments and medical equipment to uphold the highest standards of infection prevention and patient safety. Responsibilities Perform decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, and reprocessing of surgical instruments, endoscopes, and other medical devices following established protocols. Assemble, inspect, and package sterile instruments accurately to ensure readiness for surgical procedures. Manage inventory levels of sterile supplies and medical equipment, ensuring proper storage and timely replenishment. Adhere strictly to aseptic techniques and infection prevention standards during all processing activities. Operate specialized sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ethylene oxide sterilizers, and endoscope reprocessors with precision. Maintain detailed records of sterilization cycles, instrument tracking, and quality assurance documentation. Conduct routine quality checks on sterilized items to verify compliance with safety standards. Collaborate with clinical staff to facilitate efficient instrument turnaround times and address any equipment concerns. Stay informed about current best practices in sterile processing, infection control, and healthcare safety regulations. Requirements Proven experience in sterile processing medical instrument assembly, packaging, and sterilization within a healthcare setting. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to surgical procedures and instrument handling. Familiarity with medical terminology, medical equipment operation, and infection prevention management. Strong understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control protocols. Proficiency in using sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and endoscope reprocessors. Ability to demonstrate aseptic technique consistently during all processing activities. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for recordkeeping and inventory management. Effective communication skills to coordinate with clinical teams and support hospital workflows. Certification or training in sterile processing or central sterile services is preferred but not mandatory.
