Bonus Potential Summary/Objective The Surgical Technologist working the Sterile Processing Department (SPD is responsible for providing and processing instrument trays and other supplies necessary for surgical procedures and in other areas of the facility. Essential Job Duties Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Applies knowledge of specialized instruments, equipment, supplies, sterilization and decontamination techniques utilized in the Surgical Suite. Organizes instruments, equipment, and supplies for easy access and maximum efficiency. Sets up and maintains instrument trays and equipment on a continuous basis to ensure ready availability. Utilizes all cleaning products according to guidelines to provide for appropriate cleaning and disinfection of equipment while preventing exposure to chemicals. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of specialized instruments, equipment, and supplies utilized in the operation of decontamination of equipment. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of methods, parameters and documentation of sterilization (i.e. steam, gas plasma, ozone, vapor phase peroxide, etc.) and associated monitoring controls (i.e. chemical and biological monitors). Applies knowledge of infection control principles in the cleaning, disinfecting, and stocking of sterile equipment, supplies, and prepared instrument trays. Ensures adequate amounts of equipment and supplies in collaboration with the manager with reordering/restocking as indicated. Ensures that indicators and appropriate packing/wrapping of all instrumentation are complete and adhere to AORN standards that impact SPD activities Maintains own proficiency in performing position responsibilities through in-services, mandated safety programs, seminars, and other self-directed learning activities. Required Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent 1-3 years related experience Required License/Certifications BLS Certification Unit specific competencies obtained within six months of hire or transfer dateCareer Insights for Sterile Processing Technician
