Job Description
Canyon Vista Medical Center seeks a Certified First Assistant to support surgeons during operative and invasive procedures. Responsibilities include preparing the operating room, ensuring sterile technique, positioning and draping patients, handling instruments, providing hemostasis, suturing, and assisting with wound closure. The First Assistant will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to promote patient safety and optimal outcomes. This role also includes pre- and post-operative patient assessments, accurate documentation, and participation in quality improvement and continuing education to support excellence in patient-centered surgical care. Responsibilities Prepare operating room, equipment, and instruments for surgical procedures Maintain strict aseptic and sterile technique throughout procedures Assist surgeons intraoperatively with exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and wound closure Position and drape patients safely and appropriately for surgery Monitor patient status intraoperatively and communicate changes to the team Perform pre- and post-operative patient assessments and documentation Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and nursing to support optimal outcomes Follow infection prevention, safety, and hospital compliance standards Participate in ongoing education, skills development, and competency training Contribute to quality improvement and patient-centered care initiatives Required Skills Surgical first assist techniques Operating room procedures Aseptic and sterile technique Intraoperative patient positioning Hemostasis and suturing Surgical instrument handling Perioperative patient assessment Infection prevention and control Electronic medical records (EMR) CPR/BLS and emergency response
