Job Description
Surgical Assistant Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgical Associates (CTVSA) is a private practice of board-certified physicians with extensive training in diseases of the heart, lung, chest and vascular systems with clinical sites throughout Chicagoland. CTVSA offers our patients access to high quality, cutting-edge services and care. Our practice is dedicated to serving our communities. CTVSA is looking to fill the role of a cardiovascular Surgical Assistant. This is a full time, four days a week, salaried position that coordinates with a team of CV assists working alongside surgeons. The ideal applicant will have at least five years of cardiovascular surgery experience and the ability to work well on a team. Utilizes aseptic technique in preparation of the procedure, positions and drapes as directed, assists with skin preparation, and inserts foley catheter when indicated. Act as a first or second assistant in surgery (CABG, valves, VAD, ECMO, aortic cases, organ procurement and heart transplant, etc.) including vein and/or arterial conduit harvest, with or without endoscope (Getinge Vasoview Hemopro system experience a plus). Assist or perform wound closure, assist or apply skin sutures/staples, assist or apply dressing. Position Requirements Surgical Assistant license (preferably Illinois, or Illinois license eligible) Proficient in the use of EMR for charting and communication (Epic and Cerner knowledge a plus) Effective interpersonal communication skills towards colleagues, patients and families, physicians, and clinical and non-clinical staff and strong ability to collaborate well with a team Organizational and analytical skills necessary to maintain efficient workflow Education/Previous Experience Surgical Assistant experience preferred At least five years of cardiovascular surgical experience, a plus Certification from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Current Registered Surgical Assistant license (Illinois preferred) BLS certification
