Oral Surgery Assistant We are an innovative, oral surgery and implant practice located in St Charles looking for a seasoned oral surgery assistant to expand our team. The position is full-time.

Position Summary:
This position is unique in that it is both surgical and administrative front desk, splitting the day between both. Surgical assistants are responsible for receiving patients, taking both panoramic x-rays, and CBCT scan, viewing charts, and beginning surgical preparation. Often assistants will make notes about performed procedures, progress, recommendations, and other subjects in the patient's charts. Surgical assistants must ensure all surgical instruments are properly cleaned and sterilized before procedures begin. Surgical assistants may be responsible for tasks such as checking vital signs and maintaining IV fluids during procedures. This accounts for half the day, usually during the morning hours. Front desk administration tasks are scheduling surgeries, consultations and post-operative visits, sending out post-treatment letters and x-rays to referring dentists and helping answer phone calls. This accounts for half of the day, usually in the afternoon hours.
Surgical Assistant Experience:
- 1 years of Oral Surgical Assistant experience -
- Experience working with IV sedated patients and training in emergency procedures preferred but not a requirement
- Preferred, but not required, Certified as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Assistant
- Anesthesia (assisting) Certification preferred.
We do offer certification or re-certification for an experienced certified dental assistant.
Job Requirements Surgical Assistant Responsibilities:
Setting up and preparing the surgery before the start of each session Clean and disinfect all equipment and working surfaces to the required standards at the end of each session Keep clinical areas, all equipment, and instruments clean, tidy and sterile in accordance with the practice and manufactures health, safety, and infection control procedures Use all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order Always ensure the care and welfare of patients in a friendly, helpful, and courteous manner Accurately complete patient clinical records Observe patient confidentiality at all times Handle all substances in accordance with MSDS guidelines Be familiar and comply with all MSDS and OSHA guidelines, and ensure safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste Complete lab request forms, keep records of work sent, received and fitted Ensure computer/written records are accurately maintained and securely stored Coordinate with reception to ensure smooth patient communications and transfer of records Other duties include cross training for occasional front desk duties Attend and participate in office Attend update training for medical emergencies and BLS certifications Act in accordance with the practice rules and code of conduct In an emergency situation react quickly to change/assemble equipment such as full face mask, laryngoscope, endotracheal tubes, etc. Knowledge of all emergency algorithms, medications and equipment Able to take Panoramic radiograph x-rays, and CBCT scans Able to stand and sit for extended periods of time
