Required Experience Minimum 5 years of experience as a Certified Surgical Assistant, with a strong track record across multiple case types and OR environments Demonstrated experience working as an independent contractor or across multiple facilities preferred Clinical / Technical Skills Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CFA/CSFA) — required Proficiency in first-assisting duties: tissue handling, hemostasis, retraction, suturing, wound closure Experience in: Orthopedics (Total Joints), Orthopedics (Sports Medicine), Neuro, Plastics Graft preparation (ACLs) strongly preferred Comfortable working across multiple ASCs and adapting to different surgeon preferences and facility workflows Strong working knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment setup Ability to anticipate surgeon needs in real time during procedures, with minimal guidance given the experience level required Certifications / Compliance Active
BLS/ACLS
certification Current state licensure (if applicable) Up-to-date immunizations and OSHA/bloodborne pathogen training Background check and drug screening clearance Ability to complete facility-specific credentialing packets promptly Logistics / Reliability Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between ASC sites in the DMV area Flexibility with scheduling, including early starts and variable case volume Strong, verifiable track record of reliability (low cancellation/no-show history) Soft Skills Excellent communication with surgeons, OR staff, and facility administrators Professionalism and composure in fast-paced, high-stakes environments Able to operate with a high degree of autonomy given the seniority requirement Work Style & Autonomy Surgical assistants at CSP work as independent contractors with full control over their schedule Pick up as many or as few shifts as you want, based on your own availability and income goals No minimum case commitment, no rigid shift structure. This is a great fit for SAs who want to build a flexible, high-earning portfolio on their own terms.
