Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Dental Surgical Assistant to join our dynamic dental team (Positions available in Auburn Hills and Flint locations). The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in clinical dental assisting, with expertise in supporting oral surgery procedures, managing patient care, and maintaining a sterile environment and upholding the highest standards of infection control and confidentiality. This position offers an engaging opportunity to contribute to comprehensive dental care in a patient-centered setting. Responsibilities Assist dentists during oral surgery, implant placements, and other complex procedures by preparing instruments, materials, and surgical sites. Operate and maintain dental equipment such as 3D scanners, X-ray machines, and sterilization units in accordance with infection prevention protocols. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring accurate imaging for diagnosis while adhering to radiation safety standards. Manage patient records using Dentrix Ascend, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all clinical supplies are stocked and organized for efficient workflow. Provide patient care through pre- and post-operative instructions, vital signs assessment, and addressing patient concerns with professionalism and empathy. Support dental reception duties when needed by managing appointment scheduling, patient management software, and general administrative tasks. Follow strict clinical confidentiality policies while maintaining infection control standards through aseptic techniques and proper dental instrument processing. Collaborate with team members in four-handed dentistry practices to enhance efficiency during procedures involving oral surgery or prosthodontics. Qualifications Proven experience as a Dental Surgical Assistant or in a similar clinical assisting role within a dental clinic environment. Proficiency with Dentrix Ascend software is favorable. Strong understanding of infection prevention management, sterilization procedures, aseptic techniques, and healthcare infection control standards. Knowledge of dental equipment operation including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and dental imaging devices. Ability to accurately take dental X-rays while following radiation safety protocols. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain procedures clearly and compassionately to patients of all ages. Familiarity with dental terminology across various specialties such as endodontics, prosthodontics and oral surgery. Certification in radiography is required. Demonstrated ability to work efficiently within a team environment practicing four-handed dentistry techniques.
