We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Operating Room First Assistant to work directly alongside our facial cosmetic surgeon. This is a part-time position for a surgical professional who is confident in the operating room, anticipates the surgeon's needs, and maintains exceptional standards of sterile technique and patient safety. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable assisting with facial cosmetic procedures in a private surgical setting. Position Summary The OR First Assistant will provide direct intraoperative support during facial cosmetic surgical procedures. Responsibilities include preparing the operating room, maintaining the sterile field, providing exposure, assisting with hemostasis and closure, handling instruments, and supporting a safe and efficient surgical environment. This position requires advanced surgical assisting skills, excellent knowledge of sterile technique, and the ability to remain calm, focused, and efficient during complex surgical procedures. Assist with exposure, retraction, tissue handling, hemostasis, suturing, and surgical closure within the individual's authorized scope of practice. Anticipate the surgeon's needs throughout each procedure. Pass and manage instruments, sutures, supplies, and surgical equipment efficiently. Assist with patient positioning, preparation, draping, and surgical-site readiness. Help maintain a sterile, safe, and organized operating environment. Assist with dressings, drains, compression garments, and other postoperative surgical needs. Communicate changes or concerns promptly to the surgeon and anesthesia provider. Support safe and efficient transitions between surgical cases. Operating Room Preparation Review the surgical schedule and procedure requirements before each case. Confirm that instruments, supplies, medications, equipment, and other required materials are available and prepared. Assist with opening the operating room and preparing sterile supplies. Verify equipment functionality before procedures begin. Participate in surgical counts according to established policies and protocols. Help maintain accurate documentation related to supplies, medications, and surgical counts. Assist with operating room turnover and preparation for the next procedure. Identify supply needs and communicate missing or low-inventory items promptly. Sterile Technique and Infection Prevention Maintain strict sterile technique throughout all surgical procedures. Recognize and immediately address breaks in sterile technique. Follow all infection-prevention, surgical-safety, and regulatory standards. Assist with the proper handling, cleaning, and processing of surgical instruments. Maintain an organized sterile field throughout each procedure. Follow TruForm Surgery policies regarding surgical attire, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and environmental safety. Patient Safety and Perioperative Support Assist with safe patient positioning and pressure-point protection. Participate in surgical time-outs and required safety checks. Confirm the correct patient, procedure, surgical site, allergies, and required documentation with the surgical team. Monitor the surgical field and communicate concerns immediately. Assist with safe patient transfers before and after surgery. Work collaboratively with the surgeon, anesthesia provider, nursing staff, and surgical assistants. Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and comfort at all times. Clinical and Practice Collaboration Work closely with the facial cosmetic surgeon and operating room team. Participate in surgical briefings, case reviews, and team communication. Follow surgeon preferences and established procedural protocols. Help identify opportunities to improve operating room efficiency and patient safety. Complete required surgical documentation accurately and promptly. Maintain compliance with TruForm Surgery policies and applicable standards of care. Contribute to a positive, professional, and team-oriented practice culture. Qualifications Current applicable Michigan professional license or credential required. One of the following credentials is required: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) Comparable nationally recognized surgical first-assistant credential CST candidates must have documented surgical first-assisting education, training, and experience. Current Basic Life Support certification required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification preferred. Previous operating room experience required. Previous surgical first-assisting experience strongly preferred. Experience in plastic surgery, facial plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery, ENT, or a related surgical specialty strongly preferred. Demonstrated proficiency with sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, tissue handling, retraction, hemostasis, suturing, and closure. Knowledge of operating room safety and infection-prevention standards. Ability to anticipate the surgeon's needs throughout each procedure. Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail. Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional in a fast-paced surgical environment. Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with the surgical team. Must maintain all required licenses, credentials, certifications, and continuing-education requirements throughout employment.
