Dr. Carolyn Garner Clinic and Mariposa Surgery Center are seeking a motivated, dependable, and hardworking Medical Assistant / Surgical Assistant to join our team. This is a unique position that combines traditional medical assisting in a specialty surgical clinic with hands-on experience in the operating room. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys patient care, is eager to learn, works well under pressure, and has a strong interest in surgery and the sterile environment. Certification or licensure is not required. Except BLS ceritification. Previous medical assistant, surgical, sterile processing, or operating room experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate who demonstrates a strong willingness to learn. Schedule Monday, Thursday & Friday - Dr. Carolyn Garner Clinic 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Tuesday & Wednesday - Mariposa Surgery Center 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Clinic Responsibilities On clinic days, responsibilities will include: Rooming patients and preparing them for evaluation by the provider Obtaining detailed medical and surgical histories Reviewing and accurately documenting medications, dosages, allergies, and relevant medical information Recognizing pertinent medical information and communicating concerns to the appropriate clinical provider Ensuring new-patient charts, records, imaging, laboratory results, and other required documentation are complete and available in a timely manner Answering incoming patient phone calls Triaging patient questions and concerns and routing them appropriately Assisting providers and clinical staff with patient care and clinic flow Maintaining accurate and organized patient documentation Helping maintain an efficient, professional, and welcoming clinical environment Surgery Center Responsibilities On surgery days at Mariposa Surgery Center, responsibilities will include: Assisting in the operating room during surgical procedures Scrubbing into surgery when appropriate and trained to do so Holding retractors and assisting the surgical team during procedures Following sterile technique and infection-prevention practices Assisting with operating room setup Cleaning and turning over the operating room between surgical cases Performing terminal cleaning of the operating room according to facility protocols Preparing rooms and supplies for upcoming procedures Assisting with patient check-in and check-out when needed Supporting the surgical team to maintain safe and efficient case flow Remaining attentive and responsive during rapidly changing or high-pressure surgical situations What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate will be: Positive, dependable, and hardworking Eager to learn and take on new responsibilities Interested in surgery and the operating room environment Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical setting Able to remain calm, focused, and professional during high-pressure situations Able to adapt quickly when schedules, patient needs, or surgical cases change Detail-oriented and organized Comfortable communicating with patients, physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team Able to take direction and accept constructive feedback Willing to work as part of a small team where everyone assists where needed Able to maintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries Preferred Background Previous experience in any of the following areas is beneficial: Medical assisting Physician office or specialty clinic Surgery center or operating room Surgical assisting Sterile processing Sterile technique Patient intake and medical history collection Medication reconciliation Strong knowledge of common medical terminology, medications, medical conditions, and surgical history is highly valued. We are looking for someone who can do more than simply document information and who is interested in understanding how a patient's history and medications relate to their care. Certification or licensure is not required Except BLS, although candidates with MA, CMA, RMA, CNA, surgical technology, sterile processing, or other relevant healthcare education or certification are encouraged to apply.
