We are looking for a prn Surgical Technologist/Assist to join our thriving Plastic Surgery practice. We are looking for someone available on Monday through Friday as needed. Qualifications/Overview We are looking for a motivated individual with a pleasant personality, strong work ethic, and exceptional organizational skills Ensures appropriate supplies, equipment and instrumentation are available, opened and functioning properly for each procedre. Creates, corrects and updates surgeon preference cards to reflect equipment, supplies and specialty notes for current and future procedure. Pulls, opens and sets up cases. Coordinates with surgeons on specialty equipment and supply needs prior to procedure, and assists in constructing specialty instrument trays. Order instruments and supplies for office. Helps maintain credentialing of
AAAASF OR.
Prepares operating room according to surgical procedure schedules, and arranges sterile setups of instrument table supplies and equipment required for specific procedures. Wraps instruments in preparation for steam sterilization. Performs quality control procedures on equipment and report any issues. Ensures cleanliness of the OR before and after surgery. Scrubs for cases in surgical services according to established procedures and standards requiring advanced knowledge of anatomy, surgical instruments, surgeons' preference and other technical knowledge. Educates and prepares surgical teams according to procedure. Assist with or performs the positioning, prepping and draping of the patient. Assists the surgeon during surgical procedures, i.e. passes sterile supplies and equipment to surgeons and assistants, holds retractor devices, anticipates and responds to the surgical team needs, ties off vessels and tissues, repairs incisions and lacerations, cuts and cauterizes tissues, stabilizes drains, applies wound dressings, etc.as needed and as directed for wide variety of surgical cases. Performs complex surgical techniques as needed and as directed by physician and in accordance with Texas scope of practice for surgical scrub tech. Receives surgical specimens following specimen protocol and notifies circulating nurse of source material and delivers to appropriate location. Coordinates and collaborates with system vetting vendors on behalf of surgeon and department. Researches and coordinates quotes for capital purchase, new equipment and supplies with specialty coordinators. Requisitions supplies.
  • History of plastic surgery operating room experience
  • Must have CST or FA certification and prior training history Responsibilities
  • This is a unique position for a motivated, industrious individual to take on the role of an operating room first assist/scrub technologist. On surgery days, candidate will work in our private surgery center assisting with plastic surgery procedures exclusive to the face, breast, and body.
  • Prepare surgical room for surgical procedures, following sterile protocol
  • Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room by following proper infection control protocols
  • Prepare table, instruments, and supplies for each operative procedure according to surgeon preference
  • Assist the needs of the surgeon before/during procedure, focusing on learning surgeon techniques/requirements and anticipating them in the future
  • Assist with application of dressings and transportation of patients
  • Assist in OR case turnover
  • Maintain awareness of safety hazards and proper usage of various equipment to prevent damage or harm to staff and patients
  • Routine weekly maintenance of OR equipment (OR table, lights, autoclave)
  • Run daily checks and weekly bacteriological tests of the autoclaves and keep a log of the results
  • Maintain traffic control through the sterile processing area (i.e. maintain separate dirty and clean areas for processing)
  • Ensure instruments are properly maintained, cleaned, and sterilized after use., adhering to protocols recommended by manufacturers for the cleaning and reprocessing of instruments and equipment
  • Re-stock used supplies
  • Knowledge of decontamination and sterilization process is essential for this position
  • Take necessary precautions in handling potentially infectious waste and its disposal
  • Maintain proper containers for sharps (i.e. knife blades, needles, syringes, etc.)
  • Coordinate with the nursing staff in anticipating the caseloads of the OR schedule in completing and sterilizing instrument sets for each case
  • Maintain consistent inventory levels of necessary surgical supplies, including: sutures, dressings, packs, surgical instruments, implants, etc
  • Create, maintain and update surgical preference cards for ALL surgeons credentialed at the facility
  • Assist surgeon with aesthetic and surgical procedures (OR and under local anesthesia) as needed
  • Assist with maintaining AAAASF accreditation of surgical facility
