Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Surgical Technologist to support and oversee surgical operations within our facility. This role assists with the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with regulatory standards and facility policies, while providing leadership and guidance to surgical technologists. The Lead Surgical Technologist collaborates with nurses and physicians to maintain aseptic technique, promote patient safety, and deliver the highest standard of surgical care. Duties Lead and support surgical technologists during operative procedures while promoting teamwork, efficiency, and adherence to facility standards. Prepare and maintain operating rooms by ensuring instruments, equipment, supplies, and surgical materials are available, organized, and properly functioning. Assist surgeons during procedures by anticipating needs, maintaining a sterile field, and providing appropriate instruments and supplies. Demonstrate expertise in aseptic technique, infection prevention practices, surgical counts, and safe handling of surgical instrumentation. Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to surgical technologists while serving as a role model for clinical excellence and professionalism. Assist with OR turnover, case preparation, sterile supply management, and inventory control to support efficient surgical operations. Troubleshoot equipment issues, report malfunctions, and ensure equipment is used safely according to manufacturer guidelines. Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare team members to support safe, high-quality patient care. Maintain accurate documentation and participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff education, and regulatory compliance activities. Qualifications Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent training required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Minimum of two (2) years of operating room experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center (ASC) setting required. Urology operating room experience preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of materials management or surgical inventory experience preferred. Demonstrated expertise in surgical instrumentation, sterile technique, infection prevention practices, and operating room procedures. Strong knowledge of surgical equipment, sterilization processes, and safe handling of instrumentation. Ability to anticipate surgical team needs, organize supplies and equipment, and troubleshoot equipment issues as needed. Prior leadership or precepting experience with the ability to guide and support surgical technologists. Excellent communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment while maintaining a high standard of patient safety and quality care. Physical Demands / Work Environment Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment while effectively managing multiple priorities and time-sensitive situations. Ability to handle stress and maintain composure while meeting procedural and operational demands. Occasional overtime may be required based on surgical schedules and facility needs. Ability to stand for extended periods, including 1-2 hours uninterrupted during surgical procedures. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds without assistance. Ability to safely handle surgical equipment, supplies, and assist with patient positioning and transfers as needed.
