This position is full-time, 12 hour shifts, 3 days/week. The Surgical Technologist is responsible for assisting the surgeons during surgical procedures by anticipating surgeon needs to make sure the procedure is executed as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Prepare and organize the operating room, set up sterile instruments and equipment, and maintain a sterile environment. Surgical technologists are members of the surgical team and work under the direction of the Clinical Director. Position Duties a) Prepare and organize the operating room equipment, instruments, and supplies as required for various surgical procedures. b) Follow surgeon preference cards and help keep preference cards updated. Anticipates surgeon and patient needs during a procedure. Assists with cost containment by only opening items that are certain to be used. c) Take care of specimens and assist with dressings. d) Set up a sterile and sanitary environment and maintain the sterile field for the patient during procedures. Demonstrates understanding of aseptic technique and maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure. e) Utilize correct body mechanics in moving, transporting, and positioning patients, stretchers, and /or tables to prevent injury to patient and personnel. f) Follow relevant safety and sanitation guidelines. Assist other members of the team with terminal cleanup of room in preparation for the next patient. g) Participate in orientation and education of all surgical tech staff on an ongoing basis. h) Participate in stocking and restocking medical supplies. i) Inspect, replace, and sterilize medical instruments. Works in the Sterile Processing Room if needed. Uses proper technique for the transport of soiled instruments and supplies to the work area for decontamination. Assist in maintenance, care, and cleanliness of equipment, instruments, and supplies. Understands the operation and handling of the equipment and central supply. Prepares and processes contaminated instruments, equipment, and supplies in the manner appropriate for item. j) Provide surgeons with necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment. k) Participates in staff development, quality assurance and other clinical staff meetings. l) Provide assistance to clinical staff, physicians, and anesthesia personnel as needed. m) Position Duties may change at the discretion of the Clinical Director to meet the needs of Seven Oaks Surgery Center.

Education and Experience a) Certification as a Surgical Technologist , experience with total joint and spine surgery preferred. b) High school diploma or GED equivalent c) 1-2 years' experience working as a Surgical Technologist (Orthopaedics) d) Current Basic Life Support certificate required e) Ability to interact comfortably with patients, families, and staff in a sometimes-stressful environment f) Demonstrated knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies located in the operating room g) Must be skilled in verbal communication, problem-solving, and organization Lifting Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands; reach with hands, arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. It also requires other repetitive motions (e.g., bending, stooping, twisting, walking, standing, reaching overhead, pushing, or pulling). Manual dexterity is required, as is the ability to concentrate on detail amid other activity.
